OLYMPIA – Lake Sylvia State Park will close June 10 through Sept. 30 for an improvement project at the park’s entrance.
The $2.9 million Capital project will replace a culvert beneath the entrance road with a bridge and a new road. The new bridge will provide safer and more sustainable infrastructure to the park’s entrance, particularly in heavy rain events.
The Malden to Kenova project on the East Section of the Palouse to Cascades Trail includes the design and reconstruction of three bridges along the trail that burned in the 2020 Babb Road Fire. The project also includes resurfacing of approximately five miles of trail between the Malden Trailhead and Kenova intersection of the Palouse to Cascades Trail, construction of a small trailhead at Kenova with four to five parking stalls and construction of a kiosk with few interpretive panels along the five miles of trail.

Clayton Beach access trail closes Nov. 1 until late spring of 2023
OLYMPIA – Oct. 27, 2022 – Larrabee State Park is getting an exciting renovation this winter that will significantly improve safety and access to Clayton Beach.
State Parks is building a new bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad track, which, supported by a new trail reconfiguration, will provide safe passage between this popular beach and the Lost Lake parking lot.
COUPEVILLE – The beach access road at Fort Ebey State Park will close June 23-25 for repaving.
The road work will help restore sections of the park’s day-use road that have eroded. This work is the first phase in a larger project to repave the roads at Fort Ebey.

During the spring of 2025, Parks worked with contractors to complete a 340-acre forest health project in Riverside State Park in the area between Seven Mile Road and Carlson Road. This project will promote a healthy and resilient forest by removing wildfire fuels and low vigor trees.
OLYMPIA – Construction is anticipated to begin on a new roundabout at the intersection of State Route 7 and Mashel Prairie Road near Nisqually State Park on April 7.
OLYMPIA – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will hold its regularly scheduled commission work session virtually on Aug. 21.
Commission work session items include a report about an opportunity for the agency to lease Beebe Bridge Park from the Chelan County Public Utility District, a revenue update covering the 2023-25 biennium, and an update from Parks Director Diana Dupuis about the agency’s progress on the Commission’s 2024 priorities.
In early April, construction began on a new roundabout at the intersection of State Route 7 and Mashel Prairie Road near Nisqually State Park. Work is anticipated for completion by September 2025, weather permitting.
