Riverside Forest Health Treatment

Project summary

During the spring of 2025, Parks worked with contractors to complete a 340-acre forest health project in Riverside State Park in the area between Seven Mile Road and Carlson Road. This project will promote a healthy and resilient forest by removing wildfire fuels and low vigor trees.

Project updates

As of May 21, 2025, the thinning project is complete. Trail restoration has begun and will take place through the rest of the summer. The following areas will re-open on May 22:

  • Deep Creek and McLellan trailheads
  • The Centennial Trail between McLellan and Carlson trailheads
  • Single-track trails 25, 230, 400, 402 and 403
  • Entire Osprey Loop

Expect varied trail conditions on all single-track trails. Trails may be obscured or partially blocked due to our forest health project. Restoration is continuing.

Benefits

The long-term benefits of thinning vegetation in a dense forest includes reducing wildfire risk and limiting damage to existing trails. It also protects and supports old growth trees and sensitive species and habitats.
