Landowners open bypass to trail users between Ralston and Marengo

OLYMPIA – Feb. 28, 2023 – Next month an eastern Washington section of the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail will become more contiguous, allowing trail users to avoid a 19-mile road detour between Ralston and Marengo.

The new Cow Creek Trestle Bypass will open seasonally from March 1 to Oct. 31, thanks to a mutual agreement between State Parks and private landowners, TDH Properties.

My oh, my! It’s been a busy fall, winter and spring at the Commanding Officer’s Quarters Museum. But before diving into recent developments, let’s rewind a bit. On January 1, 2024, Fort Worden State Park officially assumed operations of the museum from its previous steward, the Jefferson County Historical Society.

Deception Pass State Park houses the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Interpretive Center featuring photos, artifacts, and video from CCC projects from across the state.

OLYMPIA – The Admiralty Head Lighthouse at Fort Casey Historical State Park will open later than usual, in mid-April, with an exciting update to its exhibits.

Standing high on the cliffs at Cape Disappointment State Park, Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center tells the story of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and Chinook tribe, as well as local maritime and military history.
Concessionaires offer many services that State Parks cannot, in most cases, provide. Concessions range from food service and campground stores to recreational equipment rentals, equestrian experiences, guided tours and glamping.

In early April, construction began on a new roundabout at the intersection of State Route 7 and Mashel Prairie Road near Nisqually State Park. Work is anticipated for completion by September 2025, weather permitting.

OLYMPIA — Beginning Sept. 16, sections of Cape Disappointment State Park will begin closing to undergo major renovations and repairs. The closure is expected to last until Spring 2026.
