OLYMPIA — Operations of the Lifelong Learning Center campus at Fort Worden Historical State Park (Fort Worden) is returning to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission (State Parks) in early October. While Fort Worden is a state park, a large part of the campus has primarily been co-managed by the Fort Worden Public Development Authority (FWPDA) for more than a decade.

Parks offer a wide variety of beach and water-related activities for the whole family. Explore the tidepools at Deception Pass, discover the reefs at Saltwater and let the wind catch your sails at Columbia Hills.

Washington State Parks is now operating the upper campus of Fort Worden Historical State Park. In the coming months, we will begin a planning process to inform the long-term plan for the upper campus. The parks campgrounds are open and remain available for reservations.  

State Parks will engage with the Tribes separately to get an understanding of how they want to participate in future planning.  

Cama Beach is a waterfront park with spectacular views of Saratoga Passage. The park also features amenities such as the Cama Beach Cafe.

Guided Hike: 10:15am (limit 20 people) with an interpretive ranger

Self-Guided Hike: 10:00am–12:00pm at your own pace (several versions to choose from)

Location: Rec Hall or Theater (check signs on arrival)

Before or after your hike, warm up inside with hot drinks and snacks from the Friends of Fort Flagler and stop by the State Parks booth for First Day Hike pins, Bark Ranger bandanas, Jr. Ranger packets, and more.

Accessibility: The first portion of the guided hike and the self-guided route are ADA accessible. The guided hike includes 60 feet of downhill elevation change along a portion of the Bluff Trail.

Calling all birders! Bottle Beach State Park sits on the tide flats of southern Grays Harbor and hosts more than a million migratory shorebirds and seabirds in the springtime.

OLYMPIA – As a proud member of the Washington Clean Coast Alliance, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will co-host the annual Washington Coast Cleanup on Saturday, April 20.

This year’s event will take place at ten state parks: Cape Disappointment, Fort Flagler, Fort Townsend, Fort Worden, Grayland Beach, Mystery Bay, Ocean City, Pacific Beach, Shine Tidelands and Twin Harbors.
