Giant Douglas Firs and towering Western Red Cedars fill the old growth forests of Hoypus point. Join staff on Saturday afternoons in February to discover the fascinating history of Hoypus point and the importance of old-growth forests throughout time. This hike is just over 2 miles round trip with a 230ft elevation gain. Surfaces include an old road and dirt trail. The hike is expected to take 1.5 hours with a 15-minute return walk back to the parking lot. This hike is not stroller accessible or ADA.

New Discover Pass free days honor Indigenous people, Black history, mental health.

OLYMPIA – Nov. 10, 2021 – Washington State Parks has designated the free days in 2022 when visitors will not need a Discover Pass to park at state parks and on recreation lands managed by Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).

In 2022, the Discover Pass free days are:

Kick off your summer activities at the annual Outdoor Discovery Day at Fort Casey State Park. It is on Saturday, June 7, a Discover Pass free day. Enjoy fun, kid friendly activities. Find out what’s happening this summer on Whidbey Island. Discover the different ways you can enjoy and connect to the outdoors.
Walk the North Jetty and discover how this massive engineering feat reshaped the coastline.

PASCO – Sacajawea Historical State Park welcomes this year’s Heritage Day, a celebration with living history reenactments, hands-on workshops, demonstrations and learning fun, back to the park this month.  

The family-friendly event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. This date is also National Public Lands Day and a Discover Pass free day.

OLYMPIA — The Washington State Discover Pass Program has designated the Discover Pass free days for 2024.

Same-day reservations program expands across Washington 

OLYMPIA – June 6, 2024 – Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission (Parks) is excited to announce its same-day reservation pilot program has expanded to 26 parks across the state.   

The Lake Sylvia Legacy Pavilion has panoramic views of the surrounding forest with lake access.
Make a splash at the Polar Plunge at Lake Sammamish State Park !

Polar Plunge returns on New Year’s Day 2025. Festivities will begin at 10:30 a.m. with registration, music, and merriment brought to you by Clown Garage on the shores of Sunset Beach. The crowd will “plunge” at noon.

The first 300 registered participants will receive a Polar Plunge SWAG bag, including a commemorative pin from local company Pins by Design..

Spectators are welcome to come out to cheer on the athletes as they take a dunk in the chilly waters of Lake Sammamish.
