OLYMPIA – June 29, 2023 – Washington's state parks are some of the most iconic in the country. Now, more families will be able to experience the beauty in their backyard thanks to the expanded Check Out Washington program.
In April 2025, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will begin a grant-funded project to build a new trailhead and expand parking access to the popular Knothead Loop Trail in Northwest Spokane. Construction has begun and will tentatively be completed by July. View a map of the work area here.
During the spring of 2025, Parks will work with contractors to complete a 340-acre forest health project in Riverside State Park in the area between Seven Mile Road and Carlson Road. This project will promote a healthy and resilient forest by removing wildfire fuels and low vigor trees. Trailhead and trail closures will be in place throughout the project area.
