OLYMPIA – June 29, 2023 – Washington's state parks are some of the most iconic in the country. Now, more families will be able to experience the beauty in their backyard thanks to the expanded Check Out Washington program.

 

OLYMPIA — State parks have a mission to support outdoor adventures for everyone. As part of this effort, the Washington State Parks Foundation, in partnership with Disabled Hikers and the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, is pleased to announce the release of Accessible Adventures: A Disabled Hiker's Guide to 5 Washington State Parks.

Sacajawea Interpretive Center tells the remarkable story of Native American interpreter and guide Sacagawea, as well as the Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery.

OLYMPIA —  Washington State Parks will perform its annual mooring buoy maintenance at marine state parks in Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands in June.

This ongoing maintenance creates safe conditions for boaters who tie up to buoys at marine state parks and recreate or sleep in their vessels.

The following parks will have limited mooring buoy availability during the following timeframes:

Surrounded by old growth cedar and hemlock trees, Ramblewood Retreat Center combines the characteristics of camping with the comforts of a cozy lodge. Ramblewood is perfect for medium-sized groups.
The magnificent log cabin architecture of the Heron Center offers beautiful views of Birch Bay.
Near the small town of Goldendale, Brooks Memorial Retreat Center is a rustic and remote facility surrounded by a pine forest.
Set on a bluff high above Puget Sound, Fort Flagler Retreat Center is steeped in military history, offering a unique experience.

Nestled amongst the trees on the shores of Deep Lake at Millersylvania State Park, Millersylvania Retreat Center offers swimming, fishing and canoeing. With miles of hiking trails, a fitness trail and wildlife viewing, this facility has something for everyone.

Deception Pass State Park houses the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Interpretive Center featuring photos, artifacts, and video from CCC projects from across the state.
Functioning as the gateway to the US Forest Service National Volcanic Monument, Mount St. Helens Visitor Center will entice you with scientific displays, a movie theatre and educational opportunities.
