Mountain Biking

Mountain bikers use a specialized off-road bicycle, typically utilizing single track trails. Mountain bikes are characterized by wider, knobby tires, an angled frame. They often have a suspension system to more effectively and comfortably ride over roots, rocks and other trail features.

Several state parks allow mountain biking on in-park trails, which may also be open to hikers and equestrians. However, mountain biking (like equestrian use) is often the exception and not the norm. Please be sure to check out the allowed trail uses for the park you're visiting before heading out!

Rules & safety

Mountain bikers must yield to other trail users, pass with care and operate at speeds appropriate for the conditions. Please follow any posted signs, closures, rules and communicate with other trail users you encounter.

Remember, it’s never okay to build new trails in a state parks without permission. If you’re interested in trail building and trail maintenance, please consider joining an official trail work party through your local trail advocacy organization or check out state park's volunteer events!
