State Parks Commission to meet in Vancouver

OLYMPIA – Nov. 9, 2021 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will hold its regular in-person commission meeting Thursday, Nov. 18, in Vancouver. 

Commission action items include authorizing the transfer of the Lake Newport property in Pend Oreille County for local park purposes and authorizing the sale of the Auburn State Park Property in King County.

In addition, the commission will hear updates and reports from park staff about financial matters and the preliminary recommendations on land classifications and long-term park boundaries.

A work session is scheduled the day before the regular meeting, on Wednesday, Nov. 17. Work sessions are open to the public; however, there will be no opportunity for the public to comment and no formal action will be taken. 

At 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, the commission will tour Paradise Point State Park beginning in the day-use area. The commission will visit Battle Ground Lake State Park at 3 p.m. later that day. 

The public is welcome to attend the tours but must provide their own transportation

BACKGROUND

The commission has six regular meetings a year in pre-determined locations around the state. Time for public comment is provided at all regular meetings. A full agenda, including information about opportunities for public comment is available at on State Parks’ website.

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is made up of seven citizen volunteers appointed by the governor to staggered six-year terms. The commission is charged with providing policy direction for the agency.
