During the meeting, State Parks staff will present a project overview followed by a discussion on three site development alternatives for Blake Island. Afterward, planners will staff three information stations where attendees can provide input on the alternatives. The feedback staff receives will help decision makers choose the most appropriate alternative.
The intent of a predesign phase such as this is to explore alternatives for a proposed capital project before the project is funded.
This specific project seeks to consider ways to:
- Support larger vessels in the Blake Island marina and keep the marina usable for commercial and public users.
- Develop a long-term solution to providing boat launch at Blake Island for State Park's marine crews.
- Continue to connect the public through facility development with Blake Island's natural and cultural heritage by providing recreational and educational experiences, consistent with State Parks' mission.
The predesign report will compare three potential alternatives:
- Alternative 1 – No Action. This alternative assumes that no improvements would occur within the marina basin or adjacent upland area.
- Alternative 2 – Reconstruction. This alternative maximizes moorage in the existing marina through a new dredge design and efficient marina float layout. It improves safety and access within and adjacent to the marina.
- Alternative 3 – Expansion. This alternative expands the marina to the west, expanding the dredged moorage basin to accommodate more and larger vessels. It improves safety and access within and adjacent to the marina. The entrance channel is reoriented to improve sight lines and boating safety.
