Parks Commission to meet in Lacey

LACEY — The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will hold its regular commission meeting on July 17 at its headquarters in Lacey. 

The public is welcome to attend in person or online.  

Agenda items include: 

  • A request to approve the Commission’s priorities for the 2025-27 biennium
  • A request to amend an existing easement with Spokane County Parks, Recreation and Golf and update the land classifications for the Spokane River Centennial Trail in this area
  • A request to approve the submittal of the 2026 Supplemental Operating Budget Request to the Office of Financial Management
  • A request to approve the 2026 Capital Supplemental Budget scope and magnitude
  • An update from the Capital Program
  • A financial update 

A work session is scheduled the day before the regular meeting on July 16. The public is welcome to attend in person or online, however there will be no opportunity for the public to comment and no final action will be taken.

On Tues., July 15, the Commission will visit the South Beach area to tour Twin Harbors, Grayland and Westport Light state parks. The Commission will start at Twin Harbors State Park at 10 a.m. Then, they will visit Grayland Beach State Park at 11:45 a.m. The Commission will meet at 2 p.m. at the Westhaven parking lot in Westport and will conclude their tour at Westport Light State Park at 4 p.m.  

No final action will be taken during the tour. The public is welcome to attend but must provide their own transportation. Some members of the Commission will be available after the tour for informal discussions. No public comment will be taken. Public comments may be submitted in-person or virtually at the regular meeting, or in writing to the Commission, as noted below.  

Public comment 

In-person oral public comment will be accepted at the regular meeting. If you wish to comment at a meeting, please fill out a comment card and provide it to staff at the sign-in table. The Chair will call you up to the front at the appropriate time.  

Virtual public comment will also be accepted at the meeting. To provide virtual comment, you will need to be able to join the Attendee Web link from your computer (no phone option available). To register, email commission@parks.wa.gov by 5 p.m. on July 11.  Please provide the name you will be logging in under, contact phone number and the agenda item or general topic you will be speaking on. You will receive an email by noon on July 14 with specific instructions around virtual testimony.

Background

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission holds four regular meetings in pre-determined locations around the state, four virtual meetings and one planning meeting a year. Time for public comment is provided at all regular meetings and may be virtual, written or in person, depending on the meeting. A full agenda, including information about available opportunities for public comment, is available on the Parks website.  

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is made up of seven citizen volunteers appointed by the governor to staggered six-year terms. The Commission is charged with providing policy direction for the agency.
