OLYMPIA — Nisqually State Park will temporarily close beginning Jan. 27 for phased maintenance and construction work as park development continues. The park is expected to reopen to visitors in the fall.

The first phase of this work is a forest thinning project to improve forest health throughout multiple areas of the park, including trails and future campground locations. Then, this spring, crews will start construction on a roundabout at the intersection of SR 7 and Mashel Prairie Road.

State Parks is also continuing its construction of an interpretive plaza, several new operational facilities, a trail system to the Nisqually River and multiple river overlooks. After permitting is complete, additional work will start on the park’s Welcome Center, utilities and an ADA accessible multi-use trail with an overlook of the Mashel River Valley.

These projects are part of the overall development of Nisqually State Park, which will extend through 2026. Learn more about the development phases of the park here

State Parks appreciates the patience of the community and our visitors as we develop the newest state park in partnership with the Nisqually Indian Tribe.
