Snowmobile Rules

Code of ethics

I will respect all public and private property and the rights of all winter recreationists.  I will respect designated areas, trail use signs, and established ski tracks.

I will park considerately without blocking other vehicles or impeding access to trails.  When stopping, I will not block trails.

I will keep to the right when meeting other winter recreationists and yield the right of way to downhill traffic.  I will slow down and use caution when approaching and passing another.

I will not disturb wildlife and will avoid closed areas.  I will not litter, and I will pack out everything I packed in.

I realize that my destination and travel speed are determined by my equipment, ability, terrain, weather and traffic on the trail. In case of an emergency, I will volunteer assistance.

I will not interfere with or harass others, recognizing that people judge all skiers and snowmobile riders by my actions.

Age restrictions & safety course

Children under 12 may not operate a snowmobile on or across a public roadway or highway.

Children ages 12 to 16 must pass the snowmobile safety education course and carry the certificate of completion with them when operating a snowmobile. Youth who operate a snowmobile under the direct and present supervision of a qualified adult need not show the certificate.

Persons 12 years of age and older who successfully complete the snowmobile exam will receive a snowmobile safety patch and a snowmobile safety certificate permitting operation. For information on where to take the course, call the Winter Recreation program at (360) 902-8684.
