Bird Walk on the Boardwalk (Wetland Haven Trail)

Length of Hike: 0.6 miles

Where to Meet: Although the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center will be closed January 1st, the parking lot will remain open. Please park in the upper or lower lot (ADA) and meet in front of the building. Ranger Robyn will be there to greet you.

Restrictions: This hike is accessible for all. The terrain is flat with gravel/soil/boardwalk surfaces.   

Registration Required: No

Things to bring: Rain gear is recommended (just in case) as well as warm winter layers. No technical gear is required for this walk. Don’t forget your hats, gloves, and hand-warmers! Bird watchers might want their binoculars and field guides, though some will be provided.

Description: Come join Park staff and walk the trails and boardwalk along the wetland ecosystem of Silver Lake. Participants will stroll along a beautiful boardwalk, with plenty of bird-watching opportunities - so bring your binoculars! You’ll learn about the formation of this lake and the incredible biodiversity of the Mount St. Helen's landscape with an emphasis on our feathered friends. Please plan for 1-1.5 hours for this full experience.
