Camp Wooten First Day Hike

The hike will be led by a Park Ranger who will guide participants along the Camp Wooten property and the Tucannon Campground. After the hike we’ll have hot cocoa, cider and tea in the rec hall along with a fire going in the fireplace. The hike will have very little elevation change and stay on shoveled/plowed roads and paths.

LENGTH OF HIKE:  Approx. 1.75 miles 

WHERE TO MEET:  Camp Wooten Parking lot 

IS THIS HIKE RECCOMENDED FOR BEGINNERS? Yes 

ADA ACCESSIBLE? Yes

STROLLER ACCESSIBLE? Most of the hike is stroller accessible depending on snow conditions. Some sections are gravel.  

Are leashed dogs allowed?  Yes, they may not enter buildings and must be on a leash. 

MINIMUM AGE? None, children under 16 must be accompanied by adults. 

RESTRICTIONS:  Camp Wooten sits in the foothills of the Blue Mountains. The road conditions can be bad at that time of year. We’ll send an email to all participants with an update on road conditions. The park is about 1.5 hours from Dayton if Hartsock Grade is closed. It often is in the winter.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED? Yes, email camp.wooten@parks.wa.gov by December 29th if you intend to participate. Park staff will email participants with an update on road and hike conditions before the hike. 

THINGS TO BRING:  The route will be plowed/shoveled. There’s potential for some slick spots where yak traks would be helpful. Hiking shoes with good traction are recommended. The park may or may not have snow at that time of year. It will be cold so dress warm. Gloves, beanie, warm jacket, waterproof boots are all suggested.
