Volunteer Event - Riverside - Install Trail Signage

The Deep Creek Interpretive Loop trail is a 2-mile loop through moderately steep terrain in a very rocky area. Volunteers have already removed the old signage, and we will work on installing 9 new interpretive signs along the trail. This will include digging holes, setting the new post, and attaching the new signage.

Overview: Riverside State Park consists of 9,194 acres along the Spokane and Little Spokane rivers. Recreational opportunities include mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, boating and more!

Project Description: The Deep Creek Interpretive Loop trail is a 2-mile loop through moderately steep terrain in a very rocky area. Volunteers have already removed the old signage, and we will work on installing 9 new interpretive signs along the trail. This will include digging holes, setting the new post, and attaching the new signage.  

Hiking Information: From Carlson Trailhead, we will hike about 3 miles in moderately steep and uneven terrain.  

Planning Information:

-No experience is necessary; we will provide the training and tools you need

-Expect to be physically active at your own pace for up to 5 hours on uneven and steep terrain

-No problem if you need to leave early, but please be on time to sign in and attend safety briefing!

-Recommended for ages 10 and older; under 14 must be accompanied by an adult and a parental consent form must be signed for anyone under 18

-We are unable to sign off on court mandated community service

Things to bring:

Required:

-Sturdy closed-toe shoes

-Work gloves

-Eye protection (glasses, sunglasses, or safety glasses)

-Lunch and plenty of water

-A pack to carry your personal gear

-Discover Parking Pass (we can issue a day pass if you do not have one)

Recommended:

-Long pants

-Long sleeved shirt

Work gloves and eye protection will be provided but, if possible, we recommend bringing your own. We also will be providing tools but if you would like to bring your own, we will be using: rock bars, shovels, handsaws, and loppers.

Riverside's Trautman Conservation Area First Day Hike

Join Park Staff and volunteers from the Riverside State Park Foundation for a 1.6-mile hike through the Trautman Conservation Area. This route uses the newly completed trail system in the Trautman area and provides wildlife viewing opportunities. Snacks will be provided at the trailhead.
