Wasco-Style Beaded Choker Necklace Workshop

Friday, June 2, 2023

The Folk & Traditional Arts Program and Arbutus Folk School invite you to join Maria and Victor Godines for a two-hour hands-on workshop at Tolmie State Park to learn how to make a beaded Warm Springs Wasco style choker necklace. The choker will have four rows of beads, measuring approximately 1.5 inches by 14.5 inches. You will use glass, stone, and metal beads, buckskin, and artificial sinew to create your own unique choker to wear or to gift. This workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to learn a new skill or just have fun with friends. Open to ages 12 and older. Ages 10 and 11 are welcome with an enrolled guardian. All materials and tools are provided. Workshop takes place at the enclosed Tolmie State Park lower shelter.

This workshop is co-presented by the Washington State Parks Folk & Traditional Arts Program and Arbutus Folk School with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. Three payment options are available: $40, $25, and $10. Class fee is waived for members of regional tribes (contact info@arbutusfolkschool.org to arrange). Note: A Discover Pass or day-use parking pass is required for vehicle access to the park, available for purchase in the shelter parking lot.

*Registration is required for this program.*
