PORT TOWNSEND – Anderson Lake State Park will close from Aug. 3 until early winter for major renovations to its entrance, parking area and trail.

This construction project will:

  • pave the park entrance, road and parking lot, including equestrian loading area
  • add a bike path to the entrance road
  • replace the wooden outhouse with CTX vault toilets
  • rebuild .6 mile of park trail with a mix of paving and boardwalks over wetland

During construction, trail junctures that connect a network of community trails and the long-distance Olympic Discovery Trail will be blocked at the park boundary.

The current gravel entrance road makes the park inaccessible at certain times of year, and to certain types of vehicles. The road is also not road-bike friendly. The new paved road and bike path will create year-round access for all types of cars and bikes.

Renovation of this lakeside wetland park will elevate Anderson Lake as a connector for the ODT, Larry Scott and other trails and a draw for active recreationists visiting Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula.

This project has been planned for several years and is part of the discussion of the larger continuity of the ODT.

The park will be an active construction site for the duration of the work.
