PORT TOWNSEND — After a day spotting whales from the sandy beaches of Admiralty Inlet and exploring the gun batteries that make up the “Triangle of Fire,” spend the night in a historic residence on the Fort Worden Historical State Park campus this summer.
Washington State Parks will offer lodging accommodations in several historic buildings for the 2026 season, from April 1 through Oct. 31.
Visitors can begin making their reservations now. Lodging reservations can be made online or by calling our reservations call center at (888) 226-7688.
Accommodations
Fort Worden is part of the group of forts once known as the “Triangle of Fire,” which also includes Fort Flagler and Fort Casey state parks. Construction of Fort Worden, including barracks and officers’ quarters, was completed in March 1904.
On Sept. 4, 1904, Fort Worden became the headquarters of the Harbor Defense of Puget Sound. It was staffed with four companies of the Coast Artillery Corps, each authorized at a strength of 109 enlisted men, including non-commissioned officers.
Visitors have the opportunity to stay in many of these buildings. Rentable vacation homes include:
- Historic Officers Quarters
- Commander’s duplex with six bedrooms on each side
- Colonel's duplex with four bedrooms on each side
- Admiral's large single house with five bedrooms
- Historic Non-Commissioned Officers Quarters
- Sergeant's large single house with five bedrooms
- Corporal's duplex with two bedrooms on each side
- Alexander’s Castle, a one bedroom/honeymoon suite – and the oldest building preserved in the park
- Bliss Vista, a one bedroom/honeymoon suite
- The Lofts, a fourplex with two-, three- and four-bedroom options
- The Reunion House, a large group facility with 14 rooms
Lodging for large groups
Bookings for large groups are also available in the campus’ two historic dormitories. The two facilities – one with 28 individual rooms and two large group bunkbed rooms, and the other with 85 individual rooms – can be booked by emailing the park at fortwordencampus@parks.wa.gov.
Concessions
Though Fort Worden is only a five-minute drive from Port Townsend, visitors can leave their keys on the counter during their stay and enjoy several campus concessions – from your morning coffee to beachside equipment rentals to evening dinners and live music.
Concessions remain open through the winter, with hours expanding as the weather warms.

Background
In 2013, State Parks issued a 50-year lease to the Fort Worden Public Development Authority to manage and operate the 90-acre upper campus of the park. In 2022, under a concession agreement with the PDA, Fort Worden Hospitality was established to provide hospitality services for the upper campus, which includes vacation and event rentals as well as food and beverage services at the park.
However, following some financial challenges in recent years, Fort Worden Hospitality ceased operations in January 2025, and, in February 2025, State Parks officially terminated the PDA’s lease and reestablished its operation of the upper campus of the park.
Since this transition, the campgrounds in the park have remained open, but roofed accommodations have been closed to the general public.
Long-term planning efforts for the upper campus at Fort Worden are underway.
