PORT ORCHARD — After gathering key insights from the community at its first public meeting, Washington State Parks is excited to invite park enthusiasts to explore four proposals for future planning and development at Blake Island Marine State Park.

State Parks will host its second public meeting on Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. at the Port Orchard Branch of the Kitsap Regional Library. The meeting will highlight the common themes and takeaways staff received through survey results and from the first public meeting held last September.

For those who are interested but unable to attend, a video recording of the presentation will be available online, along with a short survey. Find both on the project’s webpage after the event.

There are currently four proposed alternatives for the park’s master planning, though the final recommendation could mix and match pieces of two or more of the proposals. The alternatives include:

  • A “back to nature” option
  • A “rustic retreat” option
  • An option that supports a concession area and additional infrastructure
  • An option that invests in a full expansion of State Parks facilities to maximize recreation

The meeting will help State Parks staff develop the long-range planning document that will guide the future of the park. The planning process will be completed in four phases:

  1. Identifying issues and concerns
  2. Exploring alternative approaches
  3. Preparing preliminary recommendations
  4. Preparing final recommendations

The process is currently in phase two. There will be significant community participation leading up to the final recommendations.
