State Parks Commission to meet in Chelan

OLYMPIA – Nov. 8, 2022 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will hold its regular in-person commission meeting Thursday, Nov. 17 at Campbell's Resort in Chelan.

Commission action items include the proposed transfer of Riverside State Park – Sontag Park to Nine Mile Falls School District and the proposed transfer of portions of Nisqually State Park to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

The commission will also hear updates and reports from agency staff. A work session is scheduled the day before the regular meeting, on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Work sessions are open to the public; however, there will be no opportunity for the public to comment and no formal action will be taken.

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, the commission will tour Twenty-Five Mile Creek State Park, Lake Chelan State Park, Alta Lake State Park and Bridgeport State Park. The tours will begin at Twenty-Five Mile Creek at 10:15 a.m. and end at Bridgeport at 3:15 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the tours but must provide their own transportation.

BACKGROUND

The commission has six regular meetings a year in pre-determined locations around the state. Time for public comment is provided at all regular meetings. A full agenda, including information about opportunities for public comment is available at on State Parks' website.

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is made up of seven citizen volunteers appointed by the governor to staggered six-year terms. The commission is charged with providing policy direction for the agency.

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission manages more than 100 state parks and properties totaling approximately 120,000 acres. The Commission provides a variety of recreation opportunities for citizens and provides stewardship protection for a diverse array of natural, cultural and historic resources. State Parks' statewide programs include long-distance trails, boating safety and winter recreation.
