The Department of Natural Resources has issued a statewide burn ban restricting the use of outdoor burning, campfires, the use of charcoal briquettes, and prescribed burns on all forest lands within DNR’s fire protection, including all Washington State Parks, through Sept. 30, 2024. Located in Padilla Bay, Saddlebag Island is a boat-in only park offering a warm pebble beach, green forest and grassy meadows with spring wildflowers.

There is no potable water or garbage service on Saddlebag Island. Be prepared to pack out what you pack in.
The waters in Padilla Bay fluctuate with the tides. Please be aware of the tides schedule to prevent your boat from getting stuck and becoming "high and dry."
The south bay gets hit by winds, creating rough waters that can push boats around. The south bay also has lots of logs and a steep step incline that makes access to the primitive camping area difficult.

A popular kayak destination with a 4-mile kayak trip from Anacortes through Guemes Channel. Explore the island during spring to enjoy the wildflowers or watch the harbor seals on the rocks by the water. Make sure to stay 100 feet away from all marine wildlife.
The north bay provides the most wind protection and has sandy beaches with gravel and some bigger rocks. Access to the island is easier from the north bay.
There are no docks or buoys available.
Four primitive campsites include a picnic table and firepit, available first-come, first-served.
One campsite is part of the Cascadia Marine Trail and for the use of those arriving by human or wind-powered boats. Learn more here.
