-
"I Spy" walk is designed to explore different themes in nature.

Join Interpretive Specialist Sarah Overby for a short hike of about 1 mile.

This guided “I Spy” hike at Lake Lenore Caves State Park Heritage Area invites participants to slow down and actively observe the landscape through a series of themed prompts.

Using playful “I spy” clues, hikers explore the park’s rich natural and cultural stories—spotting clues in the geology of the basalt cliffs, the plants adapted to arid conditions, signs of wildlife, and evidence of human history.

Directions

Dry Falls Visitor Center to Lake Lenore Caves State Park Heritage Site (about a 10 mile/15–20 min drive south):

  1. Start at Dry Falls Visitor Center (on Highway 17).
  2. Head south on Hwy 17 toward Soap Lake / Ephrata for about 9.5–10 miles.
  3. Watch for the turnoff at mile marker ~85 → Lake Lenore Rd (a gravel road) — it comes up quickly, so slow down and look carefully.
  4. Turn left (east) onto the gravel road and drive less than ¼ mile to the small parking area for Lake Lenore Caves.
    • There’s room for about 10 cars and there is an outhouse here.

🎒 Tips:
• A Washington State Discover Pass is required to park at the caves site.
• Roads are paved until the final short gravel spur.
• Cell service may be spotty, so have the turnoff in mind before you start.
