Participants will snowshoe west along the Lower Kit Carson Loop Road to Smith Gap and the warming hut which was completed in 2014. Along the way, participants will traverse through a beautiful old-growth cedar-hemlock forest and pass several stream crossings.
Guided by Park staff and volunteers from the Friends of Mt. Spokane, participants will snowshoe past the Bald Knob Picnic Shelter to the historic Vista House located at 5,833 feet – the highest point of Mt. Spokane. If weather permits, participants will have views of the Cabinet Mountains in Montana, Selkirk Crest in North Idaho, and nearby lakes.
Harstine Island State Park offers many beautiful sights with thick underbrush and a variety of different tree species. The planned hike will take you from the main parking lot (P-3) to the first parking turn out (P-1) with 2 scout trails back to P-3.
Join Ranger Gladson for a New Years Day hike to Clayton Beach at Larrabee State Park. This newly renovated trail is family friendly and includes stream bridges, boardwalks over wetlands, and a new pedestrian overpass. Ranger Gladson will provide interpretation along the way with local flora and fauna as well as history of Larrabee State Park.
Take a stroll around Lime Kiln Point State Park with Park Ranger McElhaney, to start off the new year. We will be hiking to the Whale Wall, the Lime Kiln Point Lighthouse, and the oldest manmade structure in WA State Parks the historic Lime Kilns. This is the perfect opportunity to get to know more about the park, its rich history, and celebrate the New Year.

Polar Plunge returns on New Year’s Day 2024. Festivities will begin at 10:30 a.m. with registration, music, and merriment on the shores of Sunset Beach. The crowd will “plunge” at noon.
