[ARCHIVED] 14-067 Celebrate the grand opening of the new Evergreen Sno-Park, Nov. 1

OLYMPIA – Oct.20, 2014 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and the Kittitas County Parks and Recreation District No. 1 invite the public to a grand opening celebration of Phase 1 of the new Evergreen Sno-Park near Cle Elum.

The celebration is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the site on All Seasons Drive (formerly FS Road #4510) off Woods and Steele Road, approximately six miles southwest of Cle Elum. As part of the celebration, members of the Washington State Snowmobile Association (WSSA) and the snowmobiling community invite the public to a chili feed and drawing. The chili feed is $5.

Evergreen Sno-Park, at 2,200 feet elevation, gives snowmobilers access to more than 100 miles of groomed trails on the Taneum-Manastash trail system. (Link to trail system map: ="http://www.parks.wa.gov/DocumentCenter/Home/View/202">www.parks.wa.gov/DocumentCenter/Home/View/202) The new Sno-Park replaces the old Woods and Steele Staging Area and can accommodate up to 25 vehicles with trailers. Once completed, the two-acre site will be expanded to five acres.

About the Winter Recreation Program
Washington State Parks administers the Winter Recreation Program in seven national forests and blocks of state and private forest land. The program manages 125 Sno-Parks near groomed and backcountry trails for snowmobile and non-motorized recreational uses. The snowmobile program is self-sustaining, relying on fees from snowmobile registrations and fuel tax revenue to fund operations. The gas tax refund and registration fees collected each year add up to approximately $69 per snowmobile to help fund the program.
