[ARCHIVED] State Parks considering Kenmore proposal to improve ballfield at Saint Edward

Public invited to learn more at a meeting Aug. 13

OLYMPIA – July 31, 2019 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is considering a proposal from the City of Kenmore to lease and renovate the existing ballfield at Saint Edward State Park.

The review process will kick off with a public scoping meeting to help identify and focus analysis for potential impacts resulting from the city’s proposal. The public scoping meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Kenmore City Hall, 18120 68th Avenue NE, Kenmore, WA 98028. (Driving directions.)

The city’s proposal would renovate the park’s historic grass ballfield with artificial turf, lights and bleacher seating. The city originally requested a lease from State Parks in 2015, but concerns over potential environmental, traffic and recreation impacts resulted in the need for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). State Parks is the lead agency for the EIS process. The EIS will analyze the elements of the environment that could be affected by the proposal along with a range of alternatives. Appropriate mitigation measures will also be identified through the EIS process.

The public is invited to attend the public scoping meeting and learn more about the proposal, as well as provide comment on potential impacts and alternatives and possible mitigation opportunities. The public can comment either in person or in writing. For more information about the EIS, or to provide comments online, visit bit.ly/StEdBallfields
