Zombies come to life at Riverside State Park

Family-friendly haunted hike offers evening of scares and other festivities

OLYMPIA – Oct. 4, 2018 – Washington State Parks and the Riverside State Park Foundation celebrate the Halloween season with the seventh annual Haunted Zombie Hike in Riverside State Park near Spokane.

The public is invited to join the fun from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Riverside State Park 7-Mile Airstrip, 7903 W. Missoula Rd., Nine Mile Falls. (Driving directions.)

Brave participants will make their way along a wooded path through haunted exhibits and (fake) blood-thirsty zombies in what organizers call the “scariest half mile.” Admission to the Haunted Zombie Hike is $10 for adults and children age 10 and older. Admission for children under 10 is $5, and they must be accompanied by an adult. Parental discretion is advised for young children. A flashlight will be provided to help with wayfinding. Pets are not allowed on the trail.

The event is a fundraiser for the Riverside State Park Foundation, a non-profit organization formed to support the park. A Discover Pass will not be required for vehicle access to this event; the Foundation is covering the cost.

About the event

Participants hike one-half mile through the woods, while  volunteer zombies and hair-raising displays offer Halloween season frights. Participants should be prepared to walk over uneven terrain and wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing. Attendees can have their picture taken with a zombie at the photo booth and enjoy food and hot beverages while gathered around one of the event’s warming fires.
