Second planning meeting is March 21, in Sultan
OLYMPIA – March 8, 2018 –The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission invites the public to help plan for the future of recreation at Wallace Falls State Park near Index.
In late 2017, State Parks launched the Wallace Falls planning effort with an initial meeting on Nov. 15. The public is invited to continue participating in the planning by attending the second meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at the Sultan City Hall Community Room, 319 Main St., Sultan. (Driving directions.) Information about the planning project is available at: http://parks.state.wa.us/1074/Wallace-Falls-Planning.
Wallace Falls State Park is a popular day-use and overnight destination with trail opportunities in the park and on adjacent lands. In this second meeting, State Park staff will present conceptual maps and management alternatives intended to address issues raised by park stakeholders during the first stage of the planning. Concerns include trail connections with adjacent lands and parking.
Key issues
Over the years, the increasing popularity of the park has outgrown the parking facilities originally designed for the park. This planning process is an opportunity to focus on creative parking solutions for this popular park.
In addition, the public lands adjacent to Wallace Falls State Park provide an exciting opportunity to identify trail connections with the goal of improved user experience for hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians and other trail users.
Opportunities for public comment will be available at the meeting, and public comment also may be provided by contacting Randy Kline, Parks Planner, at (360) 902-8632, randy.kline@parks.wa.gov, or by commenting online at http://parks.state.wa.us/1074/Wallace-Falls-Planning.
Classification and Management Plan (CAMP)
State Parks has completed more than 100 land-use plans for parks around the state through its Classification and Management Plan (CAMP) public process. The CAMP process addresses parking issues, day-use and camping opportunities, overall visitor experiences, natural resources, recreation areas, trails and other topics of interest to the community.
