New activity this year: group kayak paddle tour
OLYMPIA – Sept. 6, 2017 – Lake Sylvia State Park and the Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia (FOSLS) invite the public to get in the autumnal spirit at the eighth annual Lake Sylvia Fall Festival near Montesano.
The Fall Festival is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Lake Sylvia State Park, 1812 N. Lake Sylvia Road, Montesano. (Directions).
The Festival begins with a camp-style pancake breakfast, followed by music, kids’ games and races, an artists’ market, food vendors, history talks, cooking demonstrations by local Boy Scout troops and kids’ nature art.
A new activity this year will be a group kayak paddle/tour on the lake at 2 p.m. Kayaks will be available—for free—on a first-come, first-served basis. People are encouraged to bring their own kayaks as well.
Also new for this year, the Chehalis Watershed Festival will have a space near the lake with activities and exhibits, including a salmon life-cycle beanbag toss, bracelet making and fishy arts and crafts. The Chehalis Watershed Festival is put on by a variety of organizations working in the region on natural resource education and restoration. The Festival is free to attend, but a Discover Pass is required for vehicle access to the park. A free shuttle service for the Festival will be available all day between Simpson Elementary School, 519 Simpson Ave. W, Montesano and Lake Sylvia. (Directions)

About the Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia State Park
Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia State Parks (FOSLS) was formed in 2009 as a non-profit corporation to partner with State Parks in the preservation, development and management of the two state parks. The organization has conducted work parties to renovate historic structures, cleaned up storm damage, partially funded construction of a new shelter and worked to get Schafer State Park on the National Historic Register. About Lake Sylvia State Park
Lake Sylvia State Park is a quiet 233-acre camping park set in a wooded area outside of Montesano on 15,000 feet of freshwater shoreline. Fishing is a popular activity in the park, with plenty of access to the lake, including an ADA-accessible fishing dock and boat ramp. Non-motorized boats are allowed on the lake.
