OLYMPIA – Jan. 17, 2017 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will gather for its regular meeting in Olympia next week.

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Hampton Inn and Suites, 4301 Martin Way, Olympia.   (Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/UumKNQshVAn) The Commission has seven regular meetings a year at various locations around the state, and time for public comment is provided at all regular meetings. A full agenda, including information about public comment, is available at http://parks.state.wa.us/154/Commission-Meetings-Agendas.

Two action items are on the agenda, including the 2017 Director’s Performance Agreement and review and disposition of Commission policies. The performance agreement follows the annual evaluation process for the director. In the policy item, the Commission will consider repealing policies that are no longer necessary or desirable and amending other policies.

Also on the agenda are several non-action reports, including legislative and financial updates; a report on the status of a ballfield lease and improvement proposal by the City of Kenmore at Saint Edward State Park; and a report on the Commission’s federally funded Boating Programs—the Recreational Boating Safety Program (RBS) and the Clean Vessel Act Program.

Commission work session

A work session is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Tolmie State Park, 7730 61st Ave. N.E., Olympia. The public is invited; however, there is no opportunity for public comment and no formal action taken at work sessions.

Items on the work session agenda include a report on the agency’s internal audit program; a capital program update; planning process for South Whidbey State Park; development of a trails access policy; and a presentation to the Commission by the Washington State Parks Foundation. The meeting will close at 2:30 p.m.

Commission visits with governor and legislators

Commission members plan to meet individually with legislators between noon and 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Capitol, prior to the week’s meetings.

The Commission has scheduled a meeting with Gov. Jay Inslee for 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the Governor’s Office Conference Room in the Legislative Building on the State Capitol Campus in Olympia. The Commission plans to review its goals and objectives for the coming year at this meeting.
