Climber John Roskelley keynote speaker at Riverside State Park Foundation annual meeting

OLYMPIA – Jan. 27, 2014 – Riverside State Park Foundation invites the public to attend its first annual meeting with a speaker program featuring world-renown Spokane author and climber, John Roskelley.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Mountain Gear, 2002 N. Division St., Spokane. Riverside State Park Foundation members will provide information about the non-profit group and its new membership packages. The Foundation supports Riverside State Park through project help, education, volunteerism and events. For more information about the foundation, visit www.riversidestatepark.org.

Roskelley, who lives in Spokane, is known for his first mountain climbing ascents and notable ascents of 7,000- and 8,000-meter peaks in Nepal, India and Pakistan. His books include “Last Days,” “Stories off the Wall” and “Nanda Devi: The Tragic Expedition.” He will present a slide presentation on paddling the Columbia River, with emphasis on Washington State. He also will share his experiences climbing, biking, running and encountering wildlife at Riverside State Park.

Other speakers at the meeting will include Riverside State Park Manager Chris Guidotti and Commission member Lucinda Whaley, who lives in Spokane, to talk about the status and future of the state park system.
