[ARCHIVED] 15-024 State Parks announces Camano Island State Park summer amphitheater program

Award-winning filmmaker Rick Wood kicks off series May 23

OLYMPIA – May 15, 2015 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and Camano Island State Park invite the public to attend the park’s amphitheater speaker series taking place throughout the summer. Opening the series on May 23 is Rick Wood, documentary filmmaker of the award-winning film, “Fragile Waters.”

Wood’s presentation begins at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 23 at the amphitheater in Camano Island State Park, 2269 S. Lowell Rd., Camano Island, 98282. (Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/34uBn). He will discuss his personal story of how at age 39 in 2011 he threw his life into filmmaking and the resulting 2014 movie telling the complete story of the perils facing Southern Resident Orca (killer whales) and chinook salmon. Wood will present his film “Fragile Waters” on July 10 at Cama Beach State Park.

The summer amphitheater speakers series take place every Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m., from May 23 on Memorial Day weekend through Saturday, Sept. 5 on Labor Day weekend. The outdoor setting serves as an inspiring backdrop for these lively and informative programs, enjoyed by campers and the public.

Programs in the summer lineup span a wide variety of topics and interests, including presentations about eagles, owls, bugs, bats and other wildlife of the Camano Island area; a hands-on introduction to geocaching; how to catch and cook crabs; a presentation on climate change with practical solutions; native trees of Puget Sound; and ice age animals.

State Parks will post more details about each program on its website events calendar at http://www.parks.wa.gov/Calendar.aspx as well as its social media channels on Facebook and Twitter.
