New friends group established to support Anderson Lake State Park

OLYMPIA – Feb. 6, 2012 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission announces the establishment of a community-based nonprofit association, the Friends of Anderson Lake State Park.

The friends group is seeking new members to help support the natural, recreational and cultural resources of Anderson Lake State Park in Chimacum. The group’s mission is to protect, maintain and enhance the natural resource and recreation area on the Quimper Peninsula through fund-raising efforts, gift contributions, grants and volunteer support for Anderson Lake State Park in Jefferson County.

Friends groups support Washington state parks in a variety of ways, including financial assistance and volunteer support and helping to keep state parks open and operating for the enjoyment of all Washingtonians.

Anderson Lake State Park is a remote day-use park surrounded by 410 wooded wetland acres, sloping down to the 70-acre Anderson Lake abound with birds and wildlife. Anderson Lake sits among a cedar, fir and alder forest mixed with freshwater marshes, characteristic of the Olympic Peninsula region in which the park is home.

The Commission manages a diverse system of more than 100 state parks and recreation programs, including long-distance trails, boating safety and winter recreation. The 98-year-old park system will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2013.
