Summer concert series returns to Fort Flagler State Park

OLYMPIA – June 21, 2012 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and Friends of Fort Flagler invite the public to the fourth annual summer concert series in the historic buildings of Fort Flagler State Park on Marrowstone Point.

The concerts are 7 p.m. June 30 through Sept. 1 at Fort Flagler State Park, 10541 Flagler Road in Nordland. Visitors may enjoy a variety of genres during the annual concert series performances in either Battery Bankhead or the historic military hospital at the park. Both historic buildings are remnants of the 19th century military fort established to guard the nautical entrance to Puget Sound. The Discover Pass is required for vehicle access to the concerts.

Concerts are scheduled as follows:
• June 30: Blues music by The Julie Duke Band at Battery Bankhead
• July 7: American folk music by The Eric Miller Band at Battery Bankhead
• July 28: Bluegrass and bluegrass blend music by Blackberry Bushes at Battery Bankhead
• Aug. 4: 60’s era folk music by Shady Grove at the historic hospital
• Aug. 18: Country and classic rock music by Chantilly Lace at Battery Bankhead
• Sept. 1: Alternative folk music by the Winterlings at the historic hospital

Admission is $8 per person, $15 per family and free to children younger than 13 years of age. Seating is limited. For more information about the concert series, visit www.flaglerflashes.blogspot.com.

The event is organized by the Friend of Fort Flagler. The friends group is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping restore, preserve and protect the history of Fort Flagler State Park and to provide volunteer assistance and support for park staff. The friends group assists the park with the raising of fund and in-kind donations by organizing volunteer efforts, historic facility tours, history interpretation and community events at the park throughout the year.
