Waikiki Beach concert series returns to Cape Disappointment State Park

OLYMPIA – May 21, 2012 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission invites the public to attend the seventh annual outdoor concerts series at Cape Disappointment State Park in Ilwaco.

Concert performances run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays in June, July and August at the Confluence Project amphitheater at Cape Disappointment State Park’s Waikiki Beach, 244 Robert Gray Drive in Ilwaco. Visitors may take along a chair or blanket and listen to music ranging from bluegrass to rock with the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop.

Concerts performances are scheduled as follows:
• June 9: Sassparilla, a Portland, Oregon band featuring roots and blues music with an edge
• June 23: Dana and Susan Robinson, a folk and bluegrass duo from North Carolina. The Robinsons are the featured artists in the Public Broadcasting Services’ “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea” television series
• July 14: The Winterlings, an innovative folk music due from Port Angeles
• July 28: Holiday Friends, a Long Beach area rock group
• Aug. 11: The Bost Family Traditions, family bluegrass band from Arizona
• Aug. 25: The Ian McFeron Band, alternative folk rock band from Seattle

The Discover Pass is required to attend all performances with exception to the Battleme concert on June 9. In recognition of National Get Outdoors Day, June 9 is a State Parks “free day.” The Discover Pass is not required to access state parks on free days.

The Waikiki Beach concert series is presented with support by the Friends of the Columbia River Gateway, a non-profit organization that also operates the bookstore at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and the Carriage House Gift Shop at the North Head Lighthouse at Cape Disappointment State Park.

Cape Disappointment State Park is a 1,882-acre camping park on the Long Beach Peninsula, fronted by the Pacific Ocean and lying along the Columbia River. The park offers two miles of ocean beach, two lighthouses, hiking trails and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. As part of a larger art installation, the park also features the Confluence Project amphitheater, designed by world-renowned architect and artist, Maya Lin.
