State Parks recruiting volunteers for the Seattle Boat Show
OLYMPIA –
Jan. 17, 2012 –
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission Boating Programs is recruiting experienced and outgoing volunteers to help staff a booth at the 2012 Seattle Boat Show.
The show runs from Jan. 27 through Feb. 5 at the Century Link Field, 800 Occidental Ave. S., Seattle (across the street from Safeco Field). Show hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The show will feature thousands of recreational watercraft on display, as well as seminars and the latest boating accessories in the nation.
Volunteers will be accompanied by staff from the program, boating-affiliated organizations or other volunteers to help provide information regarding the boater card requirement and other boating safety information to the public. Volunteers are needed for all shifts, and those that can help with the booth for an entire day are especially needed.
• Monday through Thursday: 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 8 p.m.
• Friday: 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 9 p.m.
• Saturday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 3 to 8 p.m.
• Sunday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 1 to 6 p.m. (the indoor portion of the show will be closed at 4 p.m. on Feb. 5).
Boat show volunteers will receive a badge and one additional pass per shift to bring a guest on the same day or another day to experience the show. State Parks Boating Programs will provide reimbursement for parking (receipts and travel vouchers must be submitted after the show). Overnight lodging, mileage and salary will not be paid.
The State Parks booth will be in the Boating Safety Education Center, which will include all boating safety education organizations together in one location to provide one-stop shopping for visitors to learn about the education law and requirements and to get boating questions answered. This year, there will be games, prizes and a visit from the Sea Gals.
To volunteer for the Seattle Boat Show or for more information, call (360) 902-8833 or (360) 902-8837 or send an e-mail to cathie.barnes@parks.wa.gov or lynn.satre@parks.wa.gov. Please type SEATTLE BOAT SHOW in the subject line. Be sure to include contact information and specify what days and shifts are desired.
The Commission manages a diverse system of more than 100 state parks and recreation programs, including long-distance trails, boating safety and winter recreation. The 98-year-old park system will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2013.
