Columbia Hills

Columbia Hills State Park is a 3,338-acre camping park with 7,500-feet of freshwater shoreline on the Columbia River. Horsethief Butte dominates the skyline. It stands over the lake like an ancient castle. The lake itself is about 90-acres in size and is actually an impoundment of the Columbia River. The lake was flooded into existence by the reservoir created by The Dalles Dam. Lupine and balsam root bloom in mid-April making spectacular fields of purple and gold. Rock climbing is possible in this park.

The teepee is a 14' diameter Plains Indian style teepee with astro-turf ground cover inside.  The site includes a fire pit and picnic table.  Designated parking is a few yards away.

Platform Tents
There are two platform tents that are 10' x 12' with two zippered screened windows, wood floors with a 4' x 10' stoop/patio with an entry ramp, outside fire pit and picnic table.  Each is furnished with a 36" diameter 125 year old log round table and four log stools.  There are two single cots with mattresses and a small camp couch that folds down to a small double bed.  The tents are set up to sleep four on provided sleeping accommodations and two more on the floor.  Tents have a built in DC light fixture.  These are walk in sites with wheel barrows available to help shuttle gear.  Parking is about 50 yards away.

Capacity
The teepee can sleep up to six people.
The platform tents sleep up to six people.
 
Rates
The teepee is $40 plus tax per night.
The platform tents are $50 plus tax per night.

Rental Notice 
  • Bed linens are not provided in cabins, platform tents, teepees, or yurts. Campers must bring their own linen and blankets.
  • Cooking is not allowed in platform tents, teepees, or yurts. Cooking is allowed only in cabins with kitchenettes.
  • Pets are only permitted in designated cabins / yurts.
  • Smoking is not allowed in cabins, platform tents, teepees, or yurts.
  • Washington State Parks pass discounts do not apply to cabins, platform tents, teepees, vacation houses, yurts, or other roofed overnight accommodations.
Reservations
Unless otherwise noted above, reservations may be made online or by calling 888-CAMPOUT or 888-226-7688. Reservations may be made nine months in advance of the arrival date. The rental fee and a $6.50 to $8.50 non-refundable reservation fee must be paid in full at the time a reservation is made. This holds the rental facility until 1 p.m. on the day after the first reserved night.
